A house magazine for members - 'Cinephile,' is published every month to make members aware of the significance of the types of films screened by the Chapter.

It was followed by 'Indian Cinema-- Contemporary Perception from the Thirties, ' African Cinema - A view from India,' 'Cinema in Latin America-- An Inside View' and, 'An Actress in her time,' all of which have been critically appreciated internationally.

An Actress in Her Time: Karuna Banerjee

 Rs.100/- HB/ P.P-140

Karuna Banerjee, best known for her memorable performance as Sarbajaya the mother in the first two parts of Satyajit Ray's Apu Trilogy - Pather Panchali and Aparajito - went on to act in a few more films, including two more by Ray, one Mrinal Sen, and an unfinished piece by Ritwik Ghatak. In her essays and reviews collected here for the first time, she comes through as a perceptive critic of the cinema and TV of her time; a sensitive chronicler of the making of Pather Panchali, a different kind of filmmaking altogether and a liberal thinker reacting to the major social and political events of the last fifty years. She defines her position on these issues with exemplary clarity and an uncompromising honesty. And through out it all runs an actress' confident sense of time and space, rich with unusual insights.
